Teambuilding Outcomes
Dr. Clue's experienced trainers are skilled at facilitating not only the simulation game part of the event, but also the discussion and reflection-oriented "debriefs." Our goal is to provide an opportunity to learn about:
- Team processes and structures that lead to higher team performance levels.
- Your teammates’ individual skills, personalities, communication styles and knowledge-bases.
- Your own individual team skills, personality, communication style and knowledge-base.
During your Dr. Clue treasure hunt, we bring alive your corporate ethics, affording participants a chance
to really put into practice the values important to your organization while in a safe and entertaining setting.
Dr. Clue treasure hunts are divided into 4 stages:
- Stage 1 Hunt: Teams work on a short, initial set of clues to get a feeling for the challenge.
- Midbrief: Participants reflect on their successes and struggles in Stage 1.
- Stage 2 Hunt: Teams receive their second set of clues, along with a few major twists!
- Final Debrief: Participants assess their performance in the event as a whole, exploring parallels and similarities to the workplace.
In summary, teams can expect to:
- Develop a common goal, with buy-in from all members
- Practice team-strategizing techniques
- Divide roles and responsibilities
- Manage time in a fast-paced environment
- Decide on a decision-making process
- Lay down team norms and ground rules
- Construct a "team contract," signed by all members
- React to sudden change
- Explore the differences between competition and collaboration
Outcomes:
- Take away tools for forming and maintaining high-performance teams back in the workplace
- Better understanding of existing team dynamics and behaviors
- Clearer realization of the benefits of group brainstorming and problem-solving
- Increased morale and group identity
- Increased awareness of the necessity for setting roles, norms and ground rules
- Understanding of individual strengths and weaknesses within a group setting
- Increased skill in time and crisis management
- Greater familiarization with each other in a relaxed, informal environment
- Awareness of the advantages of cooperation over competition
| The Post-Hunt Debrief |
|
The post-hunt "debrief" is where the rubber really meets the road. Each team is asked to evaluate its successes and failures, and then make a presentation before the entire assembly. Participants are encouraged to draw parallels between the dynamics in a treasure hunt and the dynamics in a team-based work environment.
Sample discussion questions might include:
- What happened out there, during the hunt?
- What team dynamics emerged? What were obstacles to your team’s success?
- Who were the leaders? Did the roles change?
- In thinking about your workplace, what was familiar about what you experienced during the hunt?
- What innovation might have put you over the top?
- How might you have collaborated across teams?
- How might you use what you learned today?
