Event Description: During this fun treasure hunt adventure, you’ll explore the streets of Downtown Santa Barbara, enjoying the palm trees, the public art and the historical signage around every turn.

Location History:

Like most California towns, Santa Barbara’s first residents were Native Americans – in this case, the Chumash Indians. The Chumash gave way to Spanish soldiers in the 18th century, along with Spanish priests. When Mexico won its independence from Spain in 1822, Santa Barbara became part of Mexico and later joined the union in 1850. Big changes arrived during the Gold Rush, when the town change from a sleepy pueblo to a bustling town. In the 1900s, a railroad connected Santa Barbara to Los Angeles, further ending the town’s relative isolation. Perhaps the most significant event in the town’s history was the earthquake of 1925 that wiped out the downtown State Street corridor. The new-look architecture – “El Pueblo Viejo” – gave the city’s core historic district a distinctive look, characterized by red tile roofs, white stucco walls and decorative wrought iron.

Today, downtown Santa Barbara is pleasant place for a stroll and for shopping, with myriad cafes and restaurants to explore.

Event Description: Nestled in the scenic San Bernadino mountains, Lake Arrowhead Village features the charm of a Swiss chalet village, while offering all the modern amenities you could want:  specialty shops, restaurants, convenience stores, etc.  It even has a paddle wheel boat and a mini amusement park.  Our hunt starts at the Lake Arrowhead resort then winds down to the Village, with beautiful views of the lake at every turn.

When you think about San Diego, what comes to mind?   Beaches, Fish Taco’s, UCSD–and the San Diego Zoo!    This is one of the 5 or 10 best zoos in the world, a sprawling, split level landscape with moving sidewalks and gondolas.   You can see everything here!   Start your day with a scavenger hunt, then stay to enjoy the wide array of animals, shows and attractions.  But bring your walking shoes!  🙂

Event Description:   Sitting in the heart of scenic Balboa Park, is debatedly the greatest zoo in the world.   It’s certainly an amazing place, with over 3,700 animals to visit and observe.   The SD Zoo pioneered the concept of the open-air , cageless exhibits that re-create natural animal habitats.   It’s the place to go in California if you want to see a giant panda (as well as a “red” panda”), not to mention brand new baby gorillas and giraffes.   Thousands of tourists come to San Diego just to see the zoo — for good reason.

Location History:  The San Diego Zoo grew out of exotic animal exhibitions abandoned after the 1915 Panama-California Exposition.  Harry Wegeforth, founder of the Zoological Society of San Diego, was the driving force behind getting the zoo started.  From 1925 until 1953, Belle Benchley served as zoo director — for most of that time she was the only female zoo director in the world.

Event Description: An exciting place to participate in a corporate teambuilding event, Hollywood retains its historic sparkle, with movie theaters galore, high-end shopping and dining, and of course, the Walk of Fame.

Location History: A sleepy town up until the turn of the 20^th Century, Hollywood burst onto the international scene in 1910 when D.W. Griffith shot his 17-minute short film, In Old California, the first movie to be filmed in Hollywood.  During the next decade, four major studios were to set up shot in the area:  Paramount, Warner Brothers, RKO, and  Columbia.  Tinseltown –referring to the glittering nature of the movie industry –was born.
